5:32 PM - there are about 40 of us in line. Not too bad.
One mother and teenage daughter just walked by and asked me what we were waiting for. I told her, and she looked at my macbook and said "Is the software for that thing?" I said yes. Turns out she bought a macbook for her daughter yesterday and no one told her about this... I told her about the $10 update cost for recent buyers. Funny.

Hey guys..
First my current setup, late 2009 iMac, Mackie MR5's monitor speakers, Mackie 402-VLZ3 mixer.
Like many others have experienced, I get a really bad hissing sound with my setup (or any setup for that matter), and it gets noticeably worse when I'm scrolling through pages. I am coming directly out of the headphone jack, into my mixer.
I've searched these forums, and I've noticed that the general consensus is to get the Mbox USB interface. Looking at that though, it seems as if people get that for digital recording, wanting portable recoding studio, etc.
I was told to get a USB audio interface. My only reason to get one is to basically eliminate the hiss, because I plug whatever I need to use directly into my Mackie Mixer anyways. Is there a good quality, pretty basic USB interface out there without all the bells and whistles? I've noticed the cheap China crap on eBay, but I am assuming that's garbage.
Any recommendations? Thanks in advance.
How much money you want to put on this? From my limited experience even crappiest generic usb dac will remove that hissing but are quite bad otherwise.

I'll take a look for Quadras.
A cable on the Mac serial or printer port connects to an old Opcode miidi interface designed for the Macs of those days. Two midi cables then connect to the Tascam M-3700 recording console for bi-directional communication with the Mac.
The software itself was known as JL Cooper Pro3700 automation and always worked great with the Performa and Plus. Those tiny b&w displays were what I never liked.

I had my iPad 2 for about a week and a half before the camera stopped working. The shutter picture would appear and all camera functions would be frozen. The camera/video slider icons on the bottom right would flicker. The Facetime camera worked fine. Rebooting did not work. Restoring to factory settings did not work. Taking it to the Apple Genius Bar and having them install the latest firmware and restoring again did not work. They finally gave me a new iPad 2 and claimed they had not had that problem before. They guessed that the camera facing away from the screen may have come loose or was not properly installed.
Not much out there on this subject so hopefully this is an isolated and rare experience.

I've been trying to do use several shortcuts with the "fat" arrowkeys but I don't have a "fat" arrowkey on my keyboard. Does it mean something else or am I just slow?

Well, as you probably know I think both systems use Li-lion batteries and to get replacements I would contact the manufacturer themselves. Sometimes they have spare parts programs. With things like batteries I would never get them off Amazon or eBay unless the seller is completely trustworthy.

Hi there,
does anyone know if it is possible to use a Black Macbook as a keyboard/trackpad for an iMac? The idea would be to use the iMac as the computer and the macbook just as a keyboard/trackpad and if possible as secondary screen [maybe too much to ask for...:)]
Thanks in advance!
Screen Sharing?

Well I forgot I had a dual boot setup on my powerbook so I just turned it on and proceeded to do something else. When I returned it had booted to Linux and had gone to sleep. The thing is, it doesn't wake up gracefully on Linux and in this case it didn't wake up at all :( I held the power button -> no luck, I then removed the battery -> still no luck... I mean, wtf?? I removed the battery and the sleep light was still flashing:eek: So i gave her(it) a kiss and apparently I'm no handsome prince so still no luck. Any suggestions? :o thanks

I finally got the iBook in my hands... and here's what I did.
I first ran the hardware test.. and everything passed.
Then I planned on backing up everything to a firewire drive (just in case)
and then doing an archive and install...
Unfortunately, I couldn't copy his iTunes folder to the drive. In fact, everytime I looked inside that folder I get a perm. beachball- frozen.. and I couldn't force quit.
I tried making an archive of the folder.... no go.
I tried copying it from terminal... no go.
I saw that when it tries to copy that it hangs on 1 file... so I searched for it in finder and it froze the machine.
I then deleted the file from within iTunes.. but it still froze the computer when I looked in the iTunes folder.
So, I figured that I could use iPodRip to recover his tunes from his iPod... so I did the archive and reinstall anyway.
Before running it.. I ran repair permissions and repair disk from the install CD.
It reinstalled successfully- and the computer booted up ok..with his settings intact.

I'm trying to copy my iTunes library to a thumb-drive so that I can play it in my car ( it has a USB plug). My problem is that the car can't play apple
Lossless, which is how I've ripped all the music in iTunes. For one of my iPods, this is very easy, where you can choose to down-res your library during the sync. Is there a way to do this using the export function? Should I just copy the files and move them to the thumb-drive and then down-res them? If I did that, how would I keep iTunes from down-resign my original library. Advice please!

#!/bin/bash
sh ~/Desktop/install.sh
exit 1
save it was whatever.command, and make that file executable. Should work I believe...
No idea what you're after with putting the install script "inside the package"

Don't pay for RAM. OWC and transintl are very reputable.
I don't have any experience with SuperBiz, but I will say this:
Paying for a warranty for something like RAM is a crock of crap.
That having been said, RAM failures are exceedingly rare. Not at all like hard drives. Which is probably why most of it is lifetime guaranteed.

BitTorrent programs are the only way to go. All that other stuff is garbage. I like BitTorrent because I'm a music junkie and can't stand the fact that most of the music on networks like Kazaa is encoded by people who have no idea what they're doing. So I use Azureus to get full albums by people who, like myself, know what they're doing with music. Sure, Kazaa and Bearshare and great for computer-illiterates who don't care about good quality music, but I'll take the next step up, thank you.

is there an app that can change the tags of an mp3 based on it's file name? for instance if a file is called 01 - Song One.mp3, I'm looking for something that could recognize the file name as <track #> - <name>.mp3 and edit the tags accordingly for a batch of files? there's a zillion programs on pc that do this but i can't seem to find a single one for mac..

I have the Altec Lansing 2.1 FX 6021 speakers and they are awesome.
Unfortunately the sub blew and was searching for a similar type of audio performance/design/price range for 2.1 speakers.
Any recommendations would be appreciated! Thanks!
I would go with M-Audio AV-40s (2.0 but good bass response) or Logitech Z-2300. Personally I use both. The M-Audio speakers are Pro-grade and provide really clear sound. The Z-2300's have good sound and more "power".
Cheers
