But there is a statutory transgression. It is now illegal in France to go about in public dressed like chattel.

France is attempting to preserve their culture against corrupting outside influence. I don't have any problem with that.

would you have problems if they banned Islam from France?

I still can't play the video. This is pissing me off. Are that many people still watching this thing?

Well, you sure are trying to so I would guess others are. I would guess many people are rewinding parts, reviewing parts, and some like tried to wait until most had viewed it like you- It is good that so many people are trying to watch this thing- but isn't good apple can't keep up with demand on their servers/bandwidth I finally got to watch it yesterday and actually had to keep rewinding parts as I missed things when my kids woudl come up to me and chat about something.

I say they just make the entire area a touch screen rather then touch pad. Then it could just display the configuration you desire. But the patent looks cool too.

    Edit: Oops, it's been mentioned.

sounds neat. but honestly after having a treo 650.... I would much rather the additional option of a smart PDA/Phone/Ipod.

that would go much farther than a mini cell phone/ipod.

    just my thoughts.

    So, sounds good.

Are designating one day as the "big" event. It might be easier to get a good showing one particular day, and leave the other days open as well for people who want to meet.

You just destroyed my internet. That took forever to load.

You Sir, need faster internetz. :D

Mine for today (rotating constantly). For everyone wondering why the sides don't line up in this image, that's due to the bezel correction so that the separate images actually do line up on the screens.

Why does a Mac cost more than an equal spec PC?
Why do BMW saloons cost more than Ford ones with the same engine size and power?
Why do Levis cost more than Tesco own brand jeans?
Why does a meal at the Ritz cost more than at McDonalds?
Why are Sony tech items more expensive than the same item made by Humax?
Why do Converse sneakers cost more than Vietnamese copies?

Brand identity gives perceived increase in value in a society where fashion and superficial judgments based on appearances count more than economic logic.
Ultimately if you like the concept you buy in to it. OS X and dedicated hardware specifically designed for it is just another branding exercise.
Don't buy it? Then don't buy the brand.

The day the iPhone was introduced, the Smartphone Market became an iPhone-alike Market, and to produce an iPhone-alike phone, you need access to Apple's patents. That's what Nokia is after, or else it's dead. Making-out with Microsoft doesn't give Nokia everything it needs, and leaves it open to litigation: they say that attack is the best form of defence, so Nokia is just doing what it thinks it needs to do to survive.

I have relatives living in various 3rd-world countries, and even the less-well-off wouldn't buy a 3GS, but they are willing to pay top dollar (or the local eq) for the iPhone4.

Tanker-loads of Nokia faithful are dumping their Nokia phones for iPhones and Blackberrys -- even Android has a long fight ahead of it in these (non-geek/techy) markets.

Very well said. A very thoughtful and rational statement. The histrionics from some members can be too much at times.

In saying that though, many people do just sell their contracted iPhone and buy the latest unlocked iPhone direct from Apple.

I don't know about you guys, but on my iPhone 4 battery life has been great since 4.3.2 - best of any 4.x updates. Let's hope 4.3.3 doesn't break it, or I'll be really pissed.

I wonder what over profit generating uses Apple intends to use location data, collected with location services off, in the future ?

It's so when your new shinny iPhone 6 shows up with an NFC chip they can just charge you for walking near an Apple store. Kinda like layaway plan, but you won't know about it anyhow... at least until someone figures out the hidden file with a list of charges!

    That is utterly ridiculous.

Yes, personal responsibility is such a ridiculous concept. Society should be responsible for keeping people out of trouble, never should people have to think for themselves or suffer the consequences of their bad judgement call.

    You're right Skunk.

No one but me seems to be worried that the viewer is essentially dead. I'll be very interested to see how actual editing works on this thing -- none of this addresses the process of selecting a clip, setting ins and outs, and getting it onto the timeline. All of this is about stuff that's already on the timeline, and that's where Apple seems to be suggesting you do the majority of your editing.

That doesn't seem very... precise. I love Final Cut, but 'precision editing' (aka Trim Mode in Avid) doesn't replace knowing what you're picking before you place it into your cut. Not to mention editing to music is going to be a pain when everything is slipping around all over the place...

I remain very optimistic. Looks like it's going to be a great piece of software. But it will be very interesting to see how these editing basics work within it.
